FtM transgender person,
he/him.

The LGBTQ+ identity is one of many nuances in our ever-evolving view of gender and sexual identity, and although we have seen major advancements on that front, there is still much work to be done. By telling our communities stories through a visual language I aim not only to educate those with anti-LGBTQ biases but also to affirm the experiences of otherwise isolated LGBTQ+ people. Information on these identities, disseminated to the general public—through a medium like photography, which can be understood and accessed by people across the spectrum of literacy and education—is largely lacking. Imagery has played an important role throughout history in helping to instate change, and it is my desire through this body of work to continue working towards the goal of equal rights. Education creates understanding. Understanding forms empathy. Empathy motivates action. Action generates change.

My name is Camden Ador and I am a 27 female to male transgender person. I have resided in NYC for a little over a year but before that, I was active duty United States Navy. During my last two years in the navy, although I was out as trans I was unable to medically transition, within six months of discharge I started hormone replacement therapy and moved to NYC. For so long I fought to keep my identity separate from my work, but what I realized is that, it is the most intrinsic part of it. This realization has led me to a sense of personal responsibility in telling these LGBTQ+ stories, including my own, and will remain a core tenant of my work moving forward.
