Mission

Gender Unbound’s mission is to uplift, support, and advocate for transgender and intersex communities through arts and programming created by transgender and intersex people.

Vision

Gender Unbound envisions trans and interesex communities that are enriched by empowered creators, affirming programming, an educated and harmonious public, and safe spaces in which to share resources and celebrate themselves.

About Gender Unbound

Gender Unbound is a grassroots unincorporated organization that supports trans and intersex people and enriches trans and intersex communities through the arts and artistic events. We accomplish this by:

  1. Creating artistic events that celebrate trans and intersex people and promote intra-community pride and resilience.
  2. Paying trans and intersex artists and providing them access to an engaged, supportive community so that they may further their craft and voice.
  3. Affirming trans and intersex people through positive imagery and narratives in a variety of mediums created by talented people from their own communities.
  4. Showcasing intersectional art and narratives of people who are often marginalized within trans and intersex communities including, but not limited to, nonbinary people, people of color, immigrants, non-English speakers, sex workers, and people of non-Christian faiths.
  5. Educating the general public on the identities, experiences, and issues of trans and intersex people in an engaging and accessible way.
  6. Using community partnerships to connect festival attendees to valuable resources that promote mental, physical, social, and sexual health of trans and intersex people and that help trans and intersex people safely exercise their rights and autonomy in our society.

Alumni

Since 2016, Gender Unbound has had a number of organizers that generously gave their time to creating affirming trans and intersex arts programming. This work was largely unpaid and done on top of their other jobs out of a passion and belief in enriching trans and intersex communities. We would like to honor and thank our past organizing teams here.
