“Untitled” by Rev. M Barclay

Sained Glass

Artist Statement:

I began working on this piece reflecting on my personal resonance with feminist theologian Nelle Morton’s claim, “the journey is home.” Gender has, for me, been a winding and nonlinear process full of surprise and struggle and delight. An ongoing curiosity and openness to my becoming has been a significant means of nurturing a sense of internal aliveness. Depicting this internal blooming and growing, and other queer creations, through stained glass, a medium historically associated with religious structures, is one way I honor the Divine in queer and trans flesh, so often excluded from religious art.
