I am a Black and transgender illustrator who seeks to bring the Black queer form to the front of the artistic default and consciousness. My work also focuses on the intimacy between folks of gender identities that are specific to the Black queer community (Bois, Studs, AGs, Butch Queens, etc).

Artist Statement:
Painted using gouache, Boi Flora is a surrealist self portrait , combining my image with sunflowers. Sunflowers represent adoration, loyalty and longevity. For me, the sunflowers are the physical manifestation of the adoration and celebration of my own Black trans existence. It is also a prayer that all Black transgender, non-binary, and gender-variant individuals, live long and colorful lives.
Like sunflowers, when there is no sun, black trans people turn to each other.
