Artist Statement:

JT Phillips is an illustrator/cartoonist/fine artist by trade, and uses they/them pronouns. They live and work in Springfield, MA.

Their illustrations focus on centering queer, black and brown people in science fiction and fantasy scenarios. Illustrations, comics and zines range in theme from whimsy and wonder, to darker fantastical themes.

They also write autobiographical comics ranging on a variety of topics including their experience of blackness, nerdiness, mental health, queerness, and a variety of contemplations about the world around them. When not creating autobiographical comics, they create comics and zines featuring queer monster-like characters and scifi/fantasy/urban city themes.

They work in mixed media, with everything from pen and ink, to oil paint, to digital art, and at different sizes and surfaces.
