The liberation of intersex and trans people is bound up together

Intersex people are more than a footnote in trans advocacy arguments–we are human beings who are harmed in particular ways by the same systems that oppress others.

Gender Unbound has always centered both trans and intersex communities. In a world where intersex people, stories, and art are often ignored, misunderstood, or erased, we are proud to work for intersex liberation through art, community, and joy.

“Being able to participate in Gender Unbound events with other intersex and transgender people provided a healing sense of peace for me in a way that I hadn’t been able to experience before in TX. The spaces they facilitate are so important for connecting in a way that fosters creativity, and supports a base for community. I’ve heard that the nervous system can’t heal from dysregulation without getting back to a place of neutral regulation first, and Gender Unbound’s community supports that kind of atmosphere. Their events have helped me feel more safe, secure, and creative as a person with these intersecting identities in a world that doesn’t often feel supportive of me. I hope to see Gender Unbound continue long into the future!”

Last year, for Intersex Awareness Day, we hosted our first-ever intersex-only community event–the Intersex Art Jam! We gathered intersex creators of all kinds for art, music, and conversation. We talked about our lives while listening to a playlist of all intersex musicians.

It was a beautiful space of self-discovery, humor, generosity, and play, and we can’t wait for the next Intersex Art Jam, coming this October!

💛 Whether you’re intersex, endosex, or still figuring it out, we encourage you to check out intersex-led orgs like:

These groups offer support, education, and community for intersex people and allies alike.

Solidarity between trans and intersex people is necessary for all of us to thrive. We’re proud to be part of that history, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Gender Unbound will always champion intersex artists.
